WHAT'S YOUR HURRY?
We all get hurried about something or other in life, and I often have been asked "What's your hurry?" Do you get hurried when making large purchasing decisions? Do you get hurried when faced by stressful situations? Do you get hurried when pressured by others to make decisions? Do you get hurried when things you want are available for limited times? What types of decisions or circumstances lead you to lose your head when making the decision? What types of circumstances make you act quickly?
NO HURRY HERE
In my lifetime, I've lost over three hundred pounds of weight on my body, but that was after gaining at least five hundred and ninety pounds from my weight at birth. It took me many years to gain that weight, and it took many years to lose that weight. So, like many things in life, sometimes, the circumstances control the urgency as to which one takes action. From a weight perspective, you can now lose and gain weight quickly using either medical or dietary strategies to eliminate the size and shape of your body. But you have to decide. Hurry up, or slow down.
HURRY UP AND WAIT
Many will often advocate a position of hurry up and wait. Parents often apply verbal and non-verbal pressure on their children to leave the house. They often rush to get them to leave, but, once they leave, they are reluctant to let them go. They often pressure their children into relationships because they want grandkids but then urge them to wait for other reasons. And society often does the same thing. We are surrounded by those that create urgency so that we will take action, and it seems that regardless of what the topic or decision is, there is someone that doesn't want you to wait and think.
A LOT TO THINK ABOUT
With many decisions, there is a lot to think about. In others, there is not. Many people will not act because they are reluctant to choose from the current options that are available. Some people hesitate to make choices because they want more clarity before making a choice that has a large impact on their lives. Others are hesitant because they see all the attempts to hurry the decision as artificial and are dubious of the circumstances and facts presented. And others simply don't know why they are hesitant. But, the hesitant are often thought to be alone, pressured from all sides, looking around for more clarity.
PUSH BACK WHEN PUSHED
People will naturally push back when pushed in a direction they are hesitant to go. More pushing usually leads to more resistance. And changing directions and losing the hesitancy can even become more insurmountable as someone makes more of an investment in their own method of decision making and thinking. Sometimes, it's just best to quit pushing and allow the hesitant to pick one direction or another based on the way they are leaning.
GREATER VISION OVER TIME
Over time, many people will change their opinions or thoughts as more facts and thoughts become visible and available on the horizon. Information that was not available at the time of the initial choice may add more information and clarity. Those that are competing and messaging in the marketplace have a tendency to improve their messages, and it can make decisions easier to make.
FEAR ABOUNDS
Those that fear the hesitant fear the consequences of their indecision. And they often use fear as an attempt to motivate the hesitant to take action, but that can also have the opposite effect. Many of those in fear will become more paralyzed when pushed into action because they don't know what action to take as pressure surrounds them. The scarecrow becomes scared of the crow; they scare each other.
YOU DECIDE
You decide. It's your decision. At least for now. People really don't want you to be hesitant. They really don't want you to pick a side either. They want you to make the same decision THEY made. They want you to decide to take the same actions they did because it reinforces the same choices they made. Eventually, if you don't decide to act the way they want you to, they won't hesitate to use coercive means to convince you to change your mind. But, it remains your choice: until it doesn't. For now, the scarecrow is afraid of the crow, and the crow is afraid of the scarecrow.
ME
I like the noble crows as I've been around them all my life and I feel sympathy for their just caws. I also like scarecrows, even though they often are straw men making arguments in that way. I feel bad that they are afraid of or scared by each other. In any case, I support you in your hesitancy and your decisions. Don't hesitate to follow my ramblings at the links listed below:
"They want you to decide to take the same actions they did because it reinforces the same choices they made."
Even if it was a bad decision.
These next few years I'm suspecting a lot of regrets in their decision.
